Live bait such as shad, goldfish, or stinkbait can be effective for catching all species of catfish. Another popular method is to use cut bait. Cut bait such as liver, chicken, or shrimp can also be effective for catching catfish.

The places we like  to fish for catfish in Lake Conroe is along the old creek and river channels. These channels provide deep water, which is where catfish like to hang out. Another good place to fish is in the shallow flats adjacent to the channels. The flats are where catfish will move to feed.
