October fishing on Lake Conroe has been a little challenging, especially when it comes to getting those crappie to cooperate!

We’ve been running several half-day guided fishing trips, and one thing has been pretty consistent. We’re finding crappie, but getting them to bite has been another story.

Water Temperature and Fishing Conditions

Water temperatures have been hanging around the low to mid-80s, with recent readings of 84–85 degrees. We’re definitely looking forward to some cooler weather and getting those water temperatures down into the 70s.

The crappie are showing up on LiveScope, but many have been pretty stubborn. They’ll come over, take a look at a minnow or jig, and swim right on by. Sometimes they’ll follow the bait without ever committing.

That’s fishing! Some days they’re hungry, and other days they just want to look.

Recent Lake Conroe Fishing Trips

We’ve had some great folks aboard the pontoon lately, including repeat customers, husbands and wives, fathers and sons, and anglers getting their first experience fishing Lake Conroe.

On one recent half-day trip, I enjoyed having a repeat husband-and-wife team back aboard. The crappie weren’t particularly interested in playing along, but they still managed to take a few home for dinner. The wife also landed a nice 1.8-pound crappie!

Minnows have been part of our approach, especially when the fish are being picky. We’ve also been using jigs and watching how the fish react on Garmin LiveScope.

Even when the bite is tough, we’re learning something about what these fish are doing.

Lake Conroe Catfishing Has Been Good!

While the crappie have been a little stubborn lately, the catfish haven’t been nearly as picky!

October catfishing on Lake Conroe has been good, with plenty of action for anglers looking to put some fish in the boat.

We’ve had some enjoyable catfish trips, with customers catching plenty of fish, keeping a few for dinner, and releasing the rest.

Whether you’re bringing the kids, enjoying a family outing, or just wanting to bend a fishing rod, catfishing is another great option on Lake Conroe.

I offer both crappie and catfish guided fishing trips, and we can sometimes target both during the same half-day trip.

Looking Ahead to Cooler Weather

I’m looking forward to seeing what happens as the lake begins cooling down. Hopefully, when those water temperatures settle into the 70s, we’ll start seeing more aggressive crappie and fewer fish that just come by to visit!

Of course, that’s part of the fun of fishing. Every day on Lake Conroe is a little different.
